Club de Golf Ifach Costa Blanca Details – Video

Golf courses, like people who golf, come in all shapes and sizes, and even personalities. Some courses are built with difficulty in mind, to challenge the skill of dedicated pros, some are built with the enjoyment of casual golfers in mind, inviting the non-pro to exercise his or her skills without being intimidated. For many travelers, whether on business or purely for pleasure, proximity to a good golf course is one of the major criteria when deciding on a hotel or other accommodation.

In the Alicante region there’s no shortage of golf courses, but if you prefer a fairly short and quite challenging course with heavenly sea views, look no further than Club de Golf Ifach. It is located 2km from the beach at Moraira and about nine km from Calpe, Benissa or Teulada, and just 16km or 30 min’s from Javea. From most of the course you have a magnificent view of the great Penon (or rock) of Ifach and the blue waters of the Mediterranean. Simmering summer days are cooled by a near-constant sea breeze.

The course consists of only nine holes, designed by the highly respected Javier Arana and built in 1974.

Various descriptions include such comments as, “great service and value”, “course is short, but the scenery is immense”. Others make note of the fact that though the course is compact, each hole presents its own challenges and most golfers will have to use all of their clubs before they’re done.

Three holes are par four and six are par three; narrow fairways, some surrounded by trees, and the undulating terrain plus strategically placed bunkers require some careful maneuvering and logistics to play at or near par. The general consensus of players who have reviewed this course seems to be that it’s a wonderful spot for a good and fairly speedy game of nine or eighteen holes, with exceptional scenery to go with them.

As with most of the region’s golf courses, visitors are more than welcome and prices are competitive; latest reports cite fees for nine holes at 24€ and eighteen for 33 € (Winter 2016).  You will need to call ahead (+34-966 49 71 14) for reservations, and soft-spikes are required, but no other dress code is in force. There’s a handicap limit of 36, with a valid handicap certificate from your home golf club also required.

Be prepared to encounter noticeable slopes, and stands of trees around some greens as well as the ubiquitous bunkers. The course is considered easy enough for casual golfers to have a satisfying round if they concentrate on control and planning; experts will find enough to challenge their skills – and they’ll probably have more time to enjoy the lovely surroundings and vistas of the Mediterranean.

You might want to hang about the golf course before or after you’ve played your nine or eighteen and gain a bit more expertise on the putting, chipping and bunker practice areas. You could also learn from one of the pros who offer lessons in both Spanish and English. There’s an outdoor pool and tennis courts as well as a cafe in the clubhouse and a delightful restaurant called Micheta.

If you choose to have lunch or dinner at Club de Golf Ifach you will have the benefit of authentic Mediterranean cuisine in an old farmhouse which has been converted to a spacious and gracious dining establishment featuring large terraces with splendid views, a barbeque deck and a gorgeous courtyard.

*Note that the restaurant has changed ownership; check with the club’s management regarding its current status.*
