After a couple of weeks of pretty relentless bad weather, from a years worth of rain in 24 hours, to huge storms and high winds, to unusually cold temperatures, to the first snowfall since the early 1980s, Javea has seen some pretty extreme weather since the arrival of the new year.
The Northern Costa Blanca awoke this morning (January 19 2016) to a rare sight as snow covers not only the mountains but also the lower elevations including large parts of Javea.
Many people who move to Spain do not ever really contemplate what the winter months may be actually like, they may know its going to get ‘cold’, but assume it is warmer than where they came from, so it is not an issue. And at first it may not be a problem, but as you become accustomed to the warmer weather your blood actually becomes thinner,. This means that you feel the cold far more easily, and before you know it January feels just as cold in Spain as it does in your home country, even though the temperatures may be somewhat higher.
I decided to take a trip down to the beach to spend an hour people watching and to take a few snaps of the day.
It is a beautiful sunny day in Javea with temperatures hovering just below 20 degrees in the afternoon bringing out a lot of families to enjoy the pleasures of Javea’s main beach area.
The protective sand dunes quickly erected a couple of weeks ago on Javea’s Arenal beach have now completed their job of both protecting the beachfront walkway and the buildings beyond, as well as stopping the sand being washed away to sea.
Javea has had a weekend of fairly severe weather ranging from high winds, huge continuous down-pores and large thunderstorms.
Yesterday was the 17th of November 2016, it had rained very heavily for a couple of day’s earlier this week, but yesterday was beautiful, with clear blue skies and an air temperature of 19 degrees and a little warmer in the sun.
